andGO Sports’ recruit Jon Bakero has endured a strenuous but rewarding experience during his soccer career. On January 9th, Bakero was selected as pick No. 5 in the 2018 MLS Superdraft for the Chicago Fire Soccer Club Team, his most honorable achievement yet.

Jon Bakero started his journey in his hometown Sitges, Spain. During his time, he played for club team CF Blanca Subur, where they became League Champions. After a successful career in Spain, he was recruited (with the help of andGO Sports) to play for the Demon Deacons at Wake Forest University, an NCAA Division 1 team in the United States. He soon became an important asset to the team as a starting forward.

Bakero has had a prosperous career at Wake Forest. This past season alone he racked up 46 points with 16 goals and 14 assists in 23 starts. In his entire four years at Wake Forest, he started 80 out of the 88 games he has played in. Additionally, he became the fourth Deacon to hit the 100 point mark. His achievements are impressive, to say the least.

But they don’t end there. Right before heading over to the Adidas MLS Player Combine this year, he was awarded the MAC Hermann Trophy. Awarded annually since 1967, this trophy named him as the best men’s college soccer player of the year! On top of this, he was given several other Wake Forest awards during his senior year alone. As captain of the team, he was granted the Senior CLASS Award, First Team All-American, ACC Offensive Player of the Year and two National Player of the Week honors. The list goes on, keeping an extensive count of all of the honors given to him throughout all his four years at Wake Forest (click here to see full summary).

I speak for everyone at andGO Sports when I say we are extremely proud of how much Jon Bakero has accomplished. He has become a prime example of what all soccer recruits could attain at the college level. We wish him the best of luck as he continues to follow his dream in Chicago!
